Not-Back-To-School blog hop - Student week!!!

Well, our first day of high school was a success....I think!!! :)

I started my daughter and her friend yesterday.  I wanted to get a jump on things before I tackled my son and his friend (the 7th graders). They start next week.
Bailey and Sydney

My Girls!!!!!!
All in all, it was a great day.  We took our time and talked about "the plan" for the year!!!!  -Our goals, my expectations, etc.

We have a schedule, but it is more of a guide.  Some things they do together, some things not.  I want to give them freedom as long as they can be productive, but the minute they step out of line....WATCH OUT!! "Yeah right" is what you're thinking if you know me.  They felt the same way!!! LOL...

Can't you tell...they are scared to death!!!

This is what happened when I was trying to look something up for them!!!

No comment!!!!!

Anywho, we got to all the subjects except for Spanish and Health.  I figure we'll add them next week. THEY LOVED MATH - Algebra 1??!! - huge deal. We even had an experiment in Physical Science...and it did what it was supposed to do.
Thank goodness for the Physical Science lab kit.  It was worth every penny.  And it was a LOT of pennies!!!

The experiment required stripping a wire!!!  Have mercy!!!...

and a 9-volt battery!!!....

then taping the wires to the battery!!!

then putting the other end of the wires in baking soda water...

and it bubbled!!!  WOO HOO??!!

1st experiment - check

I love our curriculum choices and am excited more and more each day.

My daughter wasn't/isn't so excited about homeschooling in high school, but God has been faithful, and my prayer is that as she grows spiritually, she'll understand and appreciate my choices.  She enjoyed herself yesterday, but every time she realized it, she stopped!!!

I want to do better in regards to our devotional/prayer time.  That is first on my list to tweak!!

Here are my boys so you can see all the members of Reed Academy!

Ethan and Alec!!!

Happy Homeschooling!!!

Welcome to the

School room "makeover" edition of the  Not-Back-to-School-Blog Hop!!!! This by far will be my most exciting post yet!!!  As I mentioned in my curriculum post, this is my second time to homeschool .  The last time I homeschooled , my children were in 2nd and 4th grade, and we homeschooled for two years.  We actually did our schooling in a small dining room where the table took up most of the room.  My daughter sat at one end of the table and my son at the other.  I sat in the middle.  I had a wicker basket thingy with 3 drawers with all our stuff.  Now, they are in 9th and 7th grade-which means they are much bigger - lol !!!  Not to mention the fact that I am schooling two of their friends.  That means two 9th graders and two 7th graders. Well, the room I did homeschool in no longer exist due to a little remodeling, and we just so happen to have an extra room that was supposed to me my husbands room f...

Not Back to School Blog Hop: Curriculum

This is our first year back homeschooling. They are in the 9th and 7th grade. The last time we homeschooled, they were in the 2nd and 4th and we homeschooled for two years. For the past three years we have been at a wonderful Christian school in our area. I taught 4th grade and my daughter had a wonderful experience in middle school, 6th through 8th grade. Our school only went to 8th grade. My son had a rougher time. The teachers were wonderful and he had great friends, played basketball and flag football, but academically he struggled due to his autism. The lockers, changing classes, over stimulation, etc. But the Lord has continued to be faithful throughout our school career whether we were in private school, public school, or homeschooling, so I have no doubt that the upcoming year will be no different.  I am so excited to be sharing this adventure with several close friends at my church and equally excited that I will be homeschooling a friend for each of my kids.  We ...

Flourishing as a Pastor's Wife by Being a Team Player

Now I don't know much about football. My husband thought it was funny that this is the analogy and theme I chose to share with a group of pastor’s wives’ for a luncheon…but I really feel like this is where the Lord was leading me….our word for our ladies ministry this year is flourish …our focus in growing in grace…by His grace! Last year we cultivated…we pruned and weeded and got our soil ready, and this year, our goal is to focus on growing…so as I was thinking and praying on how I could best encourage us today to flourish as pastor’s wives…I was reminded of philosophy of sorts that Rusty and I have tried to live and model for our family… TEAM REED ….we wanted our kids to see that we work as a team…life is a team effort…even laundry…I remember my husband telling me early on in our marriage, that he was on my side…that he wanted me to succeed…….and we shared this with our daughter when she first got married that now she was part of TEAM REHIM…I even made her a TEAM REHIM sign….so...
